Bhutan: An Eye to History was A photography exhibition of Bhutan from its earliest known views in (1864) to contemporary photographs taken by His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, King of Bhutan. The collection of more than 80 photographic records focussed closely on the visits of political leaders from India to Bhutan and the reciprocal journeys made by Bhutanese leaders to India. The exhibition also showcases the close economic and cultural ties between the two nations.
Our role
We were contracted to curate and collate materials for the exhibition, as well as create an accompanying catalogue. This incorporated research and materials from several archives in India and Bhutan, and succeeded in identifying the earliest known photographs of Bhutan displayed for the first time.
