From the trashcans (read ‘trash pits’) of antiquity

Archaeologists have been digging up trash; recognizable, meant to to be thrown, human ordained trash. Sounds loopy? Not quite. Fresh excavations of trash pits around the mansion of George Washington at Mt. Vernon in North Virginia, have unearthed, well, a lot of trash. Trash that was disposed by the household, ranging from broken crockery to bricks and plaster are opening up new and exciting opportunities to study and understand different material and social context of the bygone eras.
