Dr. Jyotindra Jain was a co-author, along with Eberhard Fischer and Haku Shah, of a major anthropological and art historical work on ritual textile related to goddess worship in Gujarat published by Museum Rietberg, Zurich, in 1982. In December 2013 the same book came out in English (with an addition of just one chapter and a few minor changes) under the sole authorship of Eberhard Fischer. After much hectic correspondence, Fischer admitted the IPR violation and promised to withdraw all copies from circulation with immediate effect through his publisher, Niyogi Books, and reprint the cover and the title page with proper authorial credits as in the original 1982 German book.
It’s an egregious omission, for all three have impeccable credentials and such credit-sharing breaches are not expected at that level of scholarship. Fischer is a former director of the Museum Rietberg, Zurich. Read More
