Workshop at the Pictorial Archives of the Maharanas of Mewar

A two-day workshop was held with 15 students of the Photography Club of Maharana Mewar Public School, drawn from classes IX and XI. This workshop followed a preliminary visit in January 2012 to view ‘Tinted by Tradition: Waswo X. Waswo & Rajesh Soni, Hand Coloured Photographs at the City Palace, Udaipur’ at the Bhagwat Prakash Photo Gallery. At this time, they were also introduced to the Pictorial Archives of the Maharanas of Mewar and its wide-ranging historic photographic material.

Photographs and paintings, the two major aspects of the Archive, were explored over two sessions spread over two mornings.

This workshop series in connection with ‘Tinted by Tradition’ addresses an integral part of MMCF and the City Palace Museum, Udaipur’s various mandates in support of education, learning and safeguarding local culture by sharing it with as wide an audience as possible, especially younger visitors. The workshops will also be offered to other schools in Udaipur and kick-starts MMCF’s outreach activities for 2012.
