Client: Centre for Indian Visual Culture (CIViC), New Delhi, India
June 2010 – November 2010
CIViC is dedicated to the documentation, archiving, and research on the full gamut of popular visual culture in India. The brainchild of Dr. Jyotindra Jain, the Centre houses digital images of a range of nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first century Indian visual culture, loaned from Dr. Jain’s private collection as well as those of others. Mass reproduction technologies from the 19th century onwards enabled the widespread production and dissemination of images on a regional, national and international scale in various formats and for multiple uses – advertisements, labels, posters, etc. The images themselves relate to photography, TV and cinema, print media, propaganda industries, fashion, religious paraphernalia and public religious festivities, national day celebrations, entertainment industries, architecture etc.
Our role
Eka, in conjunction with The Brand New Co. has been entrusted with creating content for, designing and executing its website. This includes reviewing CIViC’s existing documentation and advising on database management, particularly those relevant to making the CIViC database more easily searchable, services they can provide, storage and housekeeping of digital images, and collections assessment. This was followed by a sorting project to promote CIViC through social media.
