The brainchild of Dr. Jyotindra Jain, the Centre houses digital images of a range of nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first century Indian visual culture, loaned from Dr. Jain’s private collection as well as those of others. Mass reproduction technologies from the 19th century onwards enabled the widespread production and dissemination of images on a regional, national and international scale in various formats and for multiple uses – advertisements, labels, posters, etc. The images themselves relate to photography, TV and cinema, print media, propaganda industries, fashion, religious paraphernalia and public religious festivities, national day celebrations, entertainment industries, architecture etc. Please visit CIViC’s website (created, designed and executed by Eka and The Brand New Co.) for further information!
Eka, in conjunction with The Brand New Co., was entrusted with creating content for, designing and executing CIViC’s website. This includes reviewing CIViC’s existing documentation and advising on database management, particularly those relevant to making the CIViC database more easily searchable, services CIViC can provide, storage and housekeeping of digital images, and collections assessment.
