One of India’s most recognized political artists, Chittaprosad was a man of bold strokes and sharp lines. Beginning in the 1930s, with pen and ink sketches, Chittaprosad recorded his discontent with contemporary feudal society. Perhaps best known for his documentation of the Bengal famine of 1943, which he carried out for several publications, Chittaprosad’s work has become an icon of political art. Chittaprosad was also a prolific printmaker, a medium which he exploited for disseminating all propaganda he believed in. For the first time ever, a retrospective of this artist’s life and work has been put together in the form of an exhibition. The exhibition is on at the Delhi Art Gallery from the 11th of July till August 2011. More info here.
