Juna Mahal located at Dungarpur in southern Rajasthan is possibly the longest-inhabited Rajput fort in India (from the 13th until the 20th century), and an example of an early Rajput fort-palace, built up over time. It is of national significance both for its architecture as well as for its exquisite art objects and paintings spanning a period of 700 years. The World Monuments Fund (WMF) has recognised the pressing need for its conservation by putting it on its 2014 Watch List. The Watch is the WMF’s primary advocacy programme, helping to focus international attention on invaluable cultural heritage on the verge of destruction because of social, political or economic pressures.
