CLIENT: The Gujral Foundation, New Delhi
September 2020 – February 2022
In 2016, on the eve of his 90th birthday, Eka curated an exhibition celebrating one of India’s greatest living artists, Satish Gujral. The month-long exhibition (21st Jan to 20th Feb 2016) showcased some of the artist’s major works – spanning a period from the 1950s to 2015. The critically acclaimed retrospective spanning 65 years of the artist’s career brought together paintings, sketches, collages, drawings, sculpture, and architectural projects drawn from various collections and institutions, for the first time. The exhibition was amplified by a curated programme of specialist talks and walkabouts along with a significant outreach activity.
Following the show’s success, the custodians desired the creation of a museum and archive of the artist’s private art works and collectibles. Eka’s scope of involvement in Phase II was to set up the Satish Gujral Archive from his private collection.
