RIGA BOURSE – the Art Museum located in the historical centre of the Latvian city, houses six permanent foreign art collections displays. These were accumulated over the centuries and are now part of the Latvian National Museum of Art (LNMA).

LNMA owns a small collection of mid 20th century Indian art and craft objects. Recent donations from the Baltic German diplomat Karl Köhler (1942–2022), have grown the collection significantly, making it the largest of its kind in the Baltics with over 500 objects.

The collection provides the Latvian people a glimpse into Indian culture, and its rich variety of craftsmanship, through representative objects in metalware, wood works, textiles, jewellery, paintings, furnishings, and decorative arts: becoming a bridge for future generations of the two nations to connect. The Museum approached Eka to help document and catalogue these objects in its collection.

Following Eka’s engagement, LNMA curated its first India exhibition titled ‘India-The Land of Tradition’ on 13 January 2023. Inaugurated by the Indian Ambassador to Sweden & Latvia HE Tanmaya Lal and his wife along with other Latvian Dignitaries, the exhibition displays a select 260 objects from the museum’s collection, that offer insight into Indian culture and heritage.
